As lip augmentations become more prevalent, so do the questions surrounding them. You may want fuller, plumper lips but you may also be hesitant or don't want to look unnatural. These are valid concerns, and to help you prepare for your appointment, we have answered the most common questions asked about lip filler.
1. Is Lip Filler Painful?
The most common question we get asked is in regard the pain level of a lip augmentation. Your lips are in a sensitive area of your face, so the concern is valid! In short, no, lip fillers are not painful. We use the tiniest needle available for the thickness of the product (insulin needle), and apply a high-quality numbing cream to the lips about 10 minutes prior to injection. The lip filler itself also contains lidocaine to make the procedure even more comfortable. You may feel slight discomfort and pressure during the procedure, but there shouldn't be any extreme pain. If it's your first time receiving a lip augmentation, your lips may be sore or tender for a few days post injection.
2. How Long Does Lip Filler Last?
This is usually the second question we're asked, and unfortunately the answer isn't really black and white. It usually depends on the type of filler used, but at The Lotus we use Hyaluronic Acid fillers, which can last 6 months to a year - sometimes longer. The higher your metabolism is or the more you use your lips the faster the product may dissolve, it's truly different for everyone.
3. Will It Make Me Look Fake?
The last most commonly asked question is extremely valid when you scroll through social media platforms or watch reality TV. Some people like that look, and that's okay because we don't judge! However, The Lotus' standards of practice are to make our clients look and feel their most beautiful, and the way we do that is to enhance the natural beauty they already have! We only allow the injection of 1/2 syringes in the lips during each appointment to make sure we do not overfill the lips and/or cause filler migration. We also want to start slow to allow you time to adjust to your luscious new lippies and make 100% sure you like where we're headed. To sum up this answer, no, lip filler will not make you look fake!
When getting a lip augmentation, you have a lot to think about, but there's nothing to be worried about. Choose a board-certified injector at a reputable place and you'll be in good hands. But no matter who you choose, always explain your concerns and outcome expectations. If you have anymore questions you'd like answered, leave them in the comments below.
