WHAT IS BBL?

BBL (BroadBand Light) by Sciton is an advanced light-based treatment designed to improve skin tone, reduce pigmentation, and restore a more youthful, even complexion.

Using powerful pulses of light energy, BBL targets unwanted pigment and vascular irregularities within the skin, helping to treat concerns such as sun damage, age spots, redness, rosacea, and uneven skin tone. The light energy gently heats the upper layers of the skin, stimulating cellular regeneration and collagen production while encouraging the body to clear damaged pigment. BBL is one of the most effective non-invasive treatments for reversing visible signs of sun damage and restoring brighter, healthier-looking skin.

BENEFITS OF BBL

  • Reduction in sun damage and age spots

  • Improvement in redness and rosacea

  • More even skin tone and clarity

  • Brighter, more radiant skin

  • Stimulated collagen production

  • Improvement in acne and acne-related redness

  • Minimal downtime

  • Gradual skin rejuvenation with continued treatments

WHAT TO EXPECT

BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT

Before your BBL treatment, your provider will evaluate your skin and discuss your concerns to create a customized treatment plan. To prepare for treatment, we typically recommend:

• Avoiding sun exposure or tanning for 1–2 weeks prior to treatment
• Avoiding self-tanners before treatment
• Avoiding retinoids, exfoliating acids, or active skincare products for 3–5 days prior
• Arriving with clean skin free of makeup, lotion, or sunscreen

Avoiding sun exposure before treatment is important because BBL targets pigment in the skin and recently tanned skin can increase the risk of unwanted side effects.

DURING THE TREATMENT

During a BBL treatment, a handheld device delivers quick pulses of light energy to the skin. Patients typically feel a brief warm snap or rubber-band-like sensation as the light targets pigment and vascular structures beneath the surface. A cooling gel and the device’s built-in cooling system help keep the treatment comfortable. Most treatments take 10–30 minutes depending on the areas being treated.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

After BBL, patients may experience mild redness or warmth similar to a light sunburn for several hours. Pigmented spots may temporarily appear darker over the next few days before gradually flaking away as the skin renews itself.

Following treatment, patients are typically advised to:

• Avoid sun exposure and wear broad-spectrum SPF daily
• Avoid excessive heat, saunas, or intense exercise for 24 hours
• Keep the skin moisturized and follow post-treatment skincare instructions

Most patients notice improvements in skin clarity and tone within 1–2 weeks, with continued improvement as the skin heals and regenerates.

MOXI + BBL: The Ultimate Skin Rejuvenation Combination

MOXI and BBL are often performed together to create a powerful, comprehensive skin rejuvenation treatment. While each treatment works differently, combining them allows us to address multiple layers of the skin in a single session for more complete results.

BBL (BroadBand Light) uses advanced light energy to target pigmentation, redness, sun damage, and uneven skin tone. It works by delivering pulses of light that break up unwanted pigment and vascular irregularities, leaving the skin clearer and more even.

MOXI, on the other hand, is a gentle fractional laser treatment that improves skin texture, early fine lines, and overall skin quality by stimulating collagen production and encouraging cellular renewal.

When performed together, BBL treats color and pigment issues, while MOXI improves texture and collagen, resulting in brighter, smoother, healthier-looking skin. This combination is ideal for patients who want to address sun damage, uneven tone, and early signs of aging with minimal downtime.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MOXI & BBL?

Although MOXI and BBL are both advanced skin rejuvenation treatments, they work in different ways and target different concerns.

MOXI

• Fractional non-ablative laser treatment
• Stimulates collagen production
• Improves texture and early fine lines
• Helps with mild pigmentation and overall skin quality
• Ideal for preventative skin rejuvenation (“prejuvenation”)

BBL (BroadBand Light)

• Advanced intense pulsed light treatment
• Targets pigmentation and vascular concerns
• Treats sun damage, redness, and age spots
• Improves overall skin tone and clarity
• Helps reverse visible signs of sun damage

Because they address different skin concerns, many patients achieve the best overall results when MOXI and BBL are combined as part of a customized treatment plan.
