SMALL  BUMPS THAT WON'T GO AWAY?

Milia are small, firm, white or skin-colored bumps that form when keratin becomes trapped beneath the surface of the skin. They are very common and often appear around the eyes, cheeks, forehead, and other delicate areas of the face. Unlike acne, milia do not typically respond to regular exfoliation or skincare products and often require professional treatment to safely address them.

At The Lotus Medspa, we offer professional milia extraction treatments to help improve the appearance of these stubborn bumps and leave the skin looking smoother and clearer.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are Milia?

Milia are tiny cyst-like bumps that develop when dead skin cells and keratin become trapped beneath the skin instead of naturally shedding away. They are benign and very common, but because they sit just under the skin’s surface, they can be difficult to treat at home.

Milia are often mistaken for whiteheads, but they are not the same thing and should not be picked or squeezed at home, especially in delicate areas such as the under eyes.

Professional treatment helps safely and precisely target the affected area while minimizing unnecessary irritation to the skin.

Can I extract them at home?

It is not recommended to attempt milia extraction at home, especially in delicate areas like the under eyes. Improper extraction can lead to irritation, scarring, or skin damage.

Is there downtime?

Downtime is minimal. Some redness or temporary sensitivity may occur, but most patients return to normal activities right away.

Can Milia come back?

Milia can return over time depending on skin type, skincare products, and natural skin turnover. Regular exfoliation and professional skincare guidance may help reduce recurrence.

Does Milia extraction hurt?

Most patients tolerate the treatment well. You may feel slight pressure or brief discomfort during extraction, depending on the area being treated.

NOT SURE IF IT'S MILIA?

Some small bumps can look similar to milia but may require a different treatment approach.
