  • The Different Types of Acne and How to Treat Them

Acne can feel like the end of the world when you have tried everything under the sun to get rid of it and it still lingers. When it comes to acne, knowledge is power. Knowing what kind of acne you might be experiencing and which ingredients are the best to keep it at bay is the key to clear skin. Read on to find out more about your acne and what products you should use to fight persistent breakouts. What is Acne and what Causes it? Acne is a common skin condition in which a hair follicle under the skin becomes clogged with sebum oil and dead skin cells, producing lesions or pimples on the skin. Sebum oil is produced by your skin to keep your skin from drying out, but it's also the reason for many individual's skin concerns. In healthy skin, sebaceous glands release sebum through the pore (which is an opening in the follicle) and onto the skin. Acne occurs when this pore is blocked with dead skin cells and the pore continues to produce sebum. This prevents your skin from shedding naturally, and is perfect for harboring bacteria. When the wall of the plugged follicle starts to break down, it spills out the bacteria, skin cells, and sebum into nearby skin, creating pimples and lesions. Acne can be found on the face, neck, back, butt, thighs and arms. Acne can be attributed to: excess oil (sebum) production bacteria and/or bad hygiene practices hormones dead skin cells ingrown hairs family history stress hair & skin products medication side effect Types of Acne Non-Inflammatory Acne or Comedones This type of acne is the most common, affecting 40-50 million people in the U.S. This type of acne is caused by a hair follicle being clogged with sebum and dead skin cells. This causes whiteheads and blackheads and respond well to OTC treatments. Blackheads (open comedones): occur when a pore is clogged with sebum and dead skins cells but the top of the pore stays open, despite the rest of it being clogged. This results in a dark color because the air discolors the sebum, not because they're dirty. Whiteheads (closed comedones): occur when a pore is clogged with sebum and dead skin cells, but the top of the pore closes up and produces a white bump. If your skin falls under this category, finding products that reduce oil production and remove dead skin cell buildup is key. It's important to note that although you want to detox your pores, you do not want to dry out your skin. Dry skin can lead to increased oil production, putting you at risk for clogged pores. We recommend avoiding physical exfoliates (like abrasive face cleansers) and using chemical exfoliators (AHAs and BHAs). Use lightweight hydrators like hyaluronic acid and a gel-based moisturizer. Salicylic acid (BHA) works great for this type of acne because it breaks down the bonds between the dead skins cells so that they can release from the pore more naturally. It also helps decrease oil production which can help limit the amount of blackheads and whiteheads you get. Retinols work great for persistent acne and can be purchased OTC. Inflammatory and Hormonal Acne The Acne Lab Pimples or cysts that are red, swollen, and painful to the touch are types of inflammatory acne. While this type is also caused by clogged pores through a combination of sebum and dead skin cells, bacteria can play a role in it as well. Hormonal acne is under this category because the pimples you get from hormones tend to be painful and inflammed. Hormonal acne gets its name from the male and female sex hormones, testosterone and estrogen. Testosterone affects the amount of sebum you produce since the glands that secrete the oil are very senstive to this hormone. Falling levels in estrogen around a woman's period can also increase the risk of acne. Papules: occur when the walls around your pores break down due to severe inflammation. This results in hard, clogged pores that are tender to the touch. They are often small, pink bumps. Pustules: also occur when the walls around your pores break down due to severe inflammation. Unlike papules, these are red in color and filled with puss. Pustules protrude on the skin with a white or yellow head. Nodules: occur when clogged pores undergo furthur irritation. They are large, painful, solid lesions that are deep in the skin. Cysts: occur when pores are clogged with dead skin cells, sebum, and bacteria. They are deep within the skin, filled with puss, and may be red or white. This type of acne is most likely to scar. If your skin falls under this category, focus on products that remove dead skin cells and reduce inflammation like AHAs and BHAs. BHAs are great for this type of acne as they also contain anti-bacterial properties. For persistent acne, you might want to see a dermatologist about antibiotics (Doxycycline) to help reduce the amount of acne-causing bacteria on the skin. Spironolactane is commonly prescribed to women with hormonal acne as it slows the production of andrgogen hormones, such as testosterone. Birth control is also often prescribed to women with hormonal acne, but this has also been found to make acne worse for some women after stopping the pill. • Skincare Science: Retinols/Retinoids

Retinol: The undisputed ingredient that is held as the golden standard of skincare in the world of beauty. These magic creams can do so much for your skin, including shrinking your pores, fighting acne, reducing wrinkles and fine lines, and reversing sun damage. The ins and outs of these chemical derivatives can be a little confusing, but the benefits are worth looking into. Read on to find out what Retinoids can do for your skin. Retinol vs. Retinoid: Are they the Same Thing? Both chemical derivatives of Vitamin A, retinols and retinoids can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve collagen production, and treat acne, among other things. The difference between these two is that retinoids are more potent, and therefore classified as a pharmaceutical - meaning you need a prescription for retinoid creams. Retinols, the less potent of the two, are very accessible and can be purchased over the counter. These creams can still be effective, but results wont be as blunt and may take longer to appear. This is a good place to start for people who have never used a Vitamin A derivative, as you have to be pretty cautious with your skin and For a new patient, we usually recommend starting with a retinol and building up to a prescription strength retinoid. The Science Behind Retinoids/Retinols Ever wonder why almost every dermatologist recommends a retinoid/retinol? It's because there is so much science behind it! These two products work by changing how a cell functions, specifically the speed at which a cell turns over, or divides, to create new cells. (1) As we age, our body produces less and less collagen and elastin fibers that give your skin lift and bounce. This makes our skin more thin and frail, leading to wrinkles, sagging skin, sun spots, and more fun things we get to look forward to as we age! 'Retinoids help mitigate those issues in a variety of ways. They thicken the epidermis through increased cell proliferation at the top level. They increase the production of natural chemicals (such as hyaluronic acid) in your skin that keep it plump and moist. They stimulate collagen production and inhibit the breakdown of collagen that already exists. They also block several inflammatory pathways that exacerbate pimples and acne.' (1) Retinols and Retinoids were introduced in the 1970's as an acne-fighting drug, but since then, these creams have been used to reduce wrinkles, reverse sun damage, shrink pores, thicken thin skin, treat psoriasis and warts, and of course battle acne. (1) (2) What are the Downsides to Retinols/Retinoids? Like any aesthetic treatment or medicine, there are potential side effects. The most common side effects of retinoids/retinols, which we want to express are very temporary, are dry and flaking skin, redness, itching and burning, irritation, and discoloration of the skin. In extreme cases, usually seen with people who already have dry skin, nosebleeds and cracking at the sides of the mouth can occur. (1) Retinols also increase your skin's sensitivity to ultraviolet light, but this only happens in the first few months of use. After a while, your skin's sensitivity to the sun will diminish. It is important that you wear sunscreen everyday, but especially when starting a retinoid treatment, as to avoid sun damage. These side effects may last 3-4 weeks, but there are some tricks to combat them. When first starting your retinol or retinoid journey, it's good to use a low dose and start with applying it once a week, then slowly work your way up to twice a week and so on. Using a good moisturizer before the application of a retinol/retinoid can help avoid extremely dry skin. In a few weeks, the dryness and peeling will go away, but the benefits will remain. When Will I See a Change in My Skin? While some prescription-strength retinoids can have an effect in a matter of weeks, it may take up to 6 months of constant use for OTC retinols to deliver the same results. (3) For acne, your breakouts may get worse before they get better, aka "purging". Noticeable difference in acne can be seen around the 3 month mark, if using consistently. When used longer than 6 months, you may start to benefit from increased collagen and elastin production - or a noticeable difference in your fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. (3) But this doesn't mean you won't see immediate results. In the short term, your skin will be exfoliated and your pores unclogged making them look smaller. • Neurotoxins 101: Your Guide to Botox® Injections

Botox®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are commonly used neurotoxins that you may have already heard of. At The Lotus, we use primarily Botox® and Jeuveau® simply out of preference. Have you ever wondered how tox works, or if you're even a candidate for it? If so, keep reading. What are neurotoxins and how do they work? What should I expect when getting neurotoxins? When should I get Botox® (or any neurotoxin of your choice) for an event? Am I a candidate? 8 examples that might influence the longevity of your results What are neurotoxins and how do they work? Purified botulinum toxins such as Botox®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are used to temporarily relax muscles and smooth out wrinkles (sign me up!) They are injected directly into the muscle under the skin causing wrinkles to smooth out and soften, and can even be used to prevent fine lines and wrinkles. When performed by a skilled injector, neurotoxin injections only affect targeted muscles while still allowing for facial expression. What should I expect when getting neurotoxins? Injections can be done during a 15 to 30 minute appointment, topical numbing is provided upon request but is rarely needed. Neurotoxins are delivered by injecting a tiny needle into the muscle under the skin. Most people describe it as a little pinch. Typically, results are evident at the 2 week mark and last anywhere from three to five months. When should I get Botox® (or any neurotoxin of your choice) for an event? Results vary of course, but typically you should shoot for 6-8 weeks before your event. At or around the 2 week mark, the neurotoxin is at its peak. This means the injection site is still tight and doesn't look as good in photos. At 6-8 weeks, your neurotoxin is settled, your face looks natural (without the wrinkles!) and you''ll look your best in photos. Am I a candidate? Sometimes a person doesn't "respond" to neurotoxins (ugh, so sad). In certain individuals, the body when exposed to a neurotoxin such as Jeuveau®, will create anti-bodies to "fight" off the neurotoxin, eating it away. Don't worry, this is super rare and only about 1-3% of people have this. Another example of Botox® resistance is if you have a high metabolism. Your body will metabolize the neurotoxin quicker than others, resulting in a short-lived effect, underwhelming results, or no effect at all. Some doctors estimate that only 1 in 10,000 have real Botox® resistance. An allergic reaction to Botox® is possible, though it is not very common. There has not been a systemic reaction to Botox®, and no one has ever died trying to get rid of their wrinkles. Usually, an adverse side effect of a neurotoxin will present itself within a week of injection. 8 examples that might influence the longevity of your results The size, depth, and how long you've had your wrinkles: The longer you've had a wrinkle, the longer it is going to take to get rid of it. Allow at least a year of consistency or look for a different treatment like RF Microneedling. To read more about RF Microneedling, click here . Your metabolism: You already knew this, didn't you! Anyways, your body is unique, it is unlike any other. You may have a high metabolism and your body's chemicals will process neurotoxins faster, but someone with a slower metabolism will have longer-lasing results. Your activity level: The more your work out the faster the neurotoxin may wear off. This is for those marathon runners who do 20 miles a week. (Couldn't be me). The injector: The skill and accuracy of the injector is important to how long your results last. Neurotoxins work right where they're injected, and have to be injected into a muscle because neurotoxins temporarily paralyze the muscle from working, (and the muscle is the reason for the wrinkle). Don't worry, our injectors at The Lotus have 9+ years experience. ;) Product Quality: Neurotoxins like Botox® and Jeuveau® must be safely stored in refrigeration because they do not react well to heat. Old neurotoxins should be properly disposed of. The Lotus maintains quality by securing product in a back-up generated fridge in case of power outages. Movement: If you're a pretty animated person in regards to your facial expressions, your results might not last as long as someone who rarely smiles or raises their eyebrows. How often you get injections: By maintaining consistency with your injections, the longer you can go without getting them, and the longer your results will last. We advise getting Botox about every 3-4 months, and 4-5 months for Jeuveau. How much you use: Everyone is different, and so is the amount of neurotoxins you need. The larger the muscle you're targeting is, the more you will need. The less you use, the faster it wears away. If you decide to undergo a Botox® or Jeuveau® treatment, our well-trained, highly-qualified, and fun (because that is important in life) injectors will take very good care of you. We will ensure that your skin care treatment is tailored to your unique body to produce the best results possible! • The Science Behind PRF

Platelet-Rich Fibrin is a medical and cosmetic procedure that uses your own white blood cells to tighten skin, produce collagen, and enhance skin quality. This blog dives into what PRF is, what it can do for your areas of concern, and who may be an optimal candidate for treatment. What is PRP? To define and explain what PRF is, we should mention it's parent procedure: PRP. Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy is a procedure used commonly for injuries such as pain caused by rotator cuff tears, Achilles tendon ruptures, and ACL tears. The procedure starts by drawing your blood and spinning it down in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. Platelets, or thrombocytes, are blood cells that carry necessary healing agents and cause the blood to clot. These platelets are injected into the injured or diseased tissue to trigger an increased number of healing cells to the area. PRP has been known to reduce pain and fast track the healing process. What is PRF? Platelet-Rich Fibrin is collected by spinning down your blood in a centrifuge at a much slower speed than PRP, allowing for a higher concentration of cells. These cells include white blood cells, platelets, fibrin scaffolding, and Mesenchymal stem cells - which are not found in PRP. Since PRP is spun at a higher speed, it seperates the red blood cells from the white, but it also separates some of the most beneficial cells used in PRF. How does PRF work? Both platelets and fibrin are involved in the body's healing process. Fibrin forms in a biological response to an injury anywhere on the body. The platelets circling the blood will bind to a scaffold of fibrin, become "activated", and release growth factors. This triggers the wound healing process by producing collagen, new skin cells, and blood vessels. PRF releases these growth factors over about 7 days, whereas PRP only releases growth factors for a few hours. The growth factors are what stimulate the body to produce collagen and stem cells. Take a look at the video below for a better understanding of what you can expect during you procedure. How long do the results from PRF last? Results are usually immediate, but the new volume only lasts anywhere from 1-3 weeks. However, the released growth factors work long-term and is what increases skin quality, produces collagen, and tightens skin. These results won't be seen for 3-4 months and can last anywhere from 6-12 months. We usually advise our clients to receive two PRF procedures spaced 6-8 weeks apart and then maintain your results with a PRF procedure once a year. Who is a candidate for PRF? PRF can be used for acne scars, wrinkles, deflated cheeks, hair restoration, and/or the most common: under-eye hollows. For deep under-eye concerns, we usually will advise our clients to get EZ Gel PRF, which acts more like a natural filler and stays longer than regular PRF. The primary difference between the two is the way the PRF is created. With EZ Gel, there is two vials of blood. One is spun down like regular PRF and then cooled, the other is put into a heating chamber. The two are then combined to create a gel. • Lip Flips, Lip Fillers, Lip Blushing - Which one do I choose?

Lips vary in shapes, sizes, color, fullness, literally everything. If you're reading this, you're probably thinking about changing your lips in appearance but like most, you're not sure what you should do. Here is a guide that gives you information about all things lips, and things that we, at The Lotus, can do for you to give you that perfect pout you've always wanted! Lip Filler What is Lip Filler? Lips fillers are usually a synthetic hyaluronic acid (a natural substance found in your body) that is injected into the lips to add volume, smooth wrinkles and/or fix asymmetry. Common fillers include Versa®, Juvederm®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, Volbella®. How long does it last? Fillers can last anywhere from 12-18 months, but of course it depends on you and your metabolism. Younger people and those who are extremely active tend to have a faster metabolism, thus the filler wears off faster in these cases. Does it hurt? Patients report that it feels like little pinches wherever product is injected. At The Lotus, we numb you before injection to keep the pain at a minimum, (we have the best numbing cream in the world!). We also have an energy facial massager that you can hold to your jaw to take your attention away from the needles. "I don't want to look unnatural" This is such a common fear regarding lip augmentation. At The Lotus, our injectors take extra care in the procedures you ask for in order to avoid this. If unnaturally large lips are what you're looking for, you've come to the wrong place. We only want to enhance the beauty you already have; keeping the shape of your lips but adding a little volume/hydration. We typically start with half a syringe of filler each visit until we achieve the results you're looking for. Pros: - Lasts 6-18 months, sometimes longer - Treatment can be gradual - We can dissolve your filler easily with an enzyme called Hylenex, should you not like your results or if we run into a problem - What's being injected is a natural substance found in your body - The procedure stimulates collagen, create a natural, youthful appearance Cons: - Bleeding from injection site (usually minimal) - Swelling and bruising - Irregular shape (this can be prevented or reversed if needed) - Tenderness around area of injection - Injection into a blood vessel (can be reversed) Here is a few examples of what one of our injectors, Kelly, did using lip filler! Lip Flip Have you ever pursed your lips and noticed the vertical lines on your top lip? These are commonly referred to as "smoker's lines," but mostly everyone will get them, even if you don't smoke (over pronunciation, drinking from a straw, etc). A lip flip involves injecting a neuromodulator (Botox®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, etc.) into the upper lip to encourage the lip to relax and "flip" outward. The end result is a more defined, fuller upper lip. This can be helpful for those with gummy smiles or thin lips. This procedure can smooth out those pesky wrinkles, the only downside is that this treatment only lasts about 6-8 weeks because it uses only 4-6 units of tox. (See the post about Neurotoxins if you'd like to learn more). There's also a video on our Instagram and Tik Tok about Lip Flips if you'd like to see one. Pros: - Smooths "smoker's lines" - You will only need 4-6 units of tox which makes this a cost effective solution - Gives your upper lip a fuller and more defined look without the use of filler - Takes less than 5 minutes Cons: - You're injected multiple times along your upper lip (don't worry, we have amazing numbing cream!) - Because you're only using a few units, it will only last 6-8 weeks This is where the tox is injected for a lip flip (right on the upper lip line): Lip Blushing Lip Blushing is not an injection, but more like a tattoo on your lips to change the color, correct pigmentation, correct asymmetry, and it give the effect of fuller lips. Here's how it works: if you have pigmentation, our Aesthetician will use a "neutralizer" to first correct the dark spots. This is usually an orange color because it brightens the dark spots before you get your new color. The next time you're seen you will customize your new lip and bada bing! Brand new lippies. Lip Blushing is such a cool way to increase the vibrancy of your lips and can last anywhere from 2-4 years. No more lip stick needed! Pros: - Lasts for a few years (semi-permanent) - Fuller & Younger looking lips - Enhanced lip symmetry - Color correction for pigmentation - Can customize the color of your lips - If you don't like it, you can have it removed Cons: - Lips will be swollen for a couple days (I mean, you're tattooing your lips) - Have to use a healing ointment for at least a week Here is an example of what our amazing Aesthetician, Erica, did for one of her clients: If you have any questions please leave a comment below, message us on Instagram / Facebook , or just text us! 210-774-2850 To book text or call 210-774-2850 or click the button below

  • XERF Advanced Skin Tightening in San Antonio, Texas

Skin laxity, jowling, softening along the jawline, crepey texture, and “I just look a little tired” energy tend to sneak up on all of us. The good news? You don’t have to jump straight to surgery to do something about it. At The Lotus Aesthetics and Wellness in San Antonio, we brought in XERF, one of the newest and most advanced non-surgical skin tightening technologies available, because we wanted something that could actually make a meaningful difference for skin laxity without needles, surgery, or downtime. And honestly? We were excited about it for ourselves too! If you’re curious about XERF in San Antonio, here’s exactly what it is, how it works, and why so many people are already falling in love with it. WHAT IS XERF AND HOW DOES IT WORK? XERF is an advanced radiofrequency (RF) skin tightening treatment designed to firm, lift, and improve the overall structure of the skin. It’s commonly used on areas like the face, jawline, and neck to address concerns such as skin laxity, early jowling, crepey texture, fine lines, and loss of firmness. As we age, our bodies naturally begin producing less collagen and elastin — two essential proteins responsible for keeping skin firm, resilient, and supported. Over time, that gradual loss can lead to sagging, softening along the jawline, and skin that just doesn’t feel as tight or youthful as it once did. That’s where XERF comes in. XERF is designed to deliver multifrequency monopolar radiofrequency energy into the skin and deeper supportive tissue, helping create both an immediate tightening effect and a longer-term collagen remodeling response. It combines 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz frequencies, which allows it to target multiple tissue depths in a single treatment rather than focusing on just one superficial layer. This matters because skin laxity is not just a surface issue. The support structures beneath the skin also change over time, and XERF is designed to address that broader architecture. A properly performed XERF treatment can help: Tighten loose or crepey skin Improve facial contour and jawline definition Support collagen remodeling Improve skin elasticity Smooth texture and soften fine lines Create a more lifted, firm, refreshed appearance Some patients notice a feeling of tightness relatively early, but the more significant improvement usually develops gradually over the following weeks and months as the body continues building and remodeling collagen. WHY WE BROUGHT XERF TO SAN ANTONIO Honestly? Because our patients deserve access to the best. At The Lotus Aesthetics and Wellness, we are incredibly intentional about what we bring into our practice. We don’t chase trends just because something is new and shiny. If we invest in a device, it’s because we believe it offers something genuinely valuable for our patients. And XERF checked every box. We brought XERF to San Antonio because we wanted our patients to have access to one of the most innovative non-surgical skin tightening treatments available — one that aligns with our philosophy of achieving beautiful, natural-looking results through thoughtful, evidence-based treatments. And if we’re being honest… we wanted it for ourselves too. Because yes, we’re providers. But we’re also women who look in the mirror. And when something real comes out that can help tighten skin, support collagen, and keep us looking refreshed without surgery, we’re absolutely paying attention. We were also proud to be one of the first medspas in San Antonio to bring XERF in , because we believe our community deserves access to advanced technology without having to wait until “everyone else” catches up. THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SKIN TIGHTENING Now for the fun science part — because this is where XERF really separates itself. XERF uses radiofrequency energy to create controlled thermal stimulation in the skin. Radiofrequency (RF) is a form of electrical energy that can be converted into heat when delivered into tissue. In aesthetic medicine, that heat is used strategically to trigger a wound-healing and remodeling response without cutting the skin. With XERF, the goal is controlled volumetric heating of the tissue — not damaging the surface, but heating the deeper support structures enough to stimulate change. Here’s what that heat is doing: 1. Immediate Collagen Contraction Collagen fibers are protein structures that help give skin support. When collagen is exposed to a therapeutic heat range, those fibers can contract and denature in a controlled way, creating an early tightening effect. 2. Fibroblast Activation The bigger long-term payoff comes from what happens next. That controlled thermal injury stimulates fibroblasts, which are the cells responsible for producing collagen, elastin, and other components of the extracellular matrix. Once activated, fibroblasts begin the process of neocollagenesis (new collagen formation) and collagen remodeling. This is why results continue to improve in the weeks and months after treatment. 3. Multi-Layer Tissue Heating What makes XERF especially interesting is that it doesn’t just focus on one superficial level of the skin. XERF uses two frequencies — 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz — to target multiple depths, allowing energy delivery into shallow, mid, and deeper tissue layers. This matters because skin laxity is not just a surface issue. Sagging and softening happen because the deeper support structures are changing too. XERF is designed to address that broader architecture. 4. Treatment of the Dermis and Structural Support Tissue At the tissue level, XERF is designed to heat the dermis, where collagen and elastin live, as well as deeper structural layers associated with support and contour. Some manufacturer and clinical materials describe its ability to reach tissue depths involved in fibrous septa and deeper support structures, which is part of why it’s being positioned as a “structural skin tightening” device rather than just a superficial skin treatment. Why that matters: A lot of treatments can make skin look a little glowier. That’s nice. But if your concern is looseness, sagging, jawline blur, or skin that just doesn’t feel as firm anymore, you need a treatment that’s working deeper than the surface. That’s where XERF shines. WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR XERF? XERF can be a great option for people who are starting to notice: Mild to moderate skin laxity Softening along the jawline Early jowls Fine lines and crepey texture A general loss of firmness or “snap” in the skin It’s often ideal for patients who want to do something proactive and effective, but aren’t ready for surgery and don’t want downtime. The best way to know if you’re a good candidate is to come in for a consultation, because not all skin laxity is created equal. Some patients do beautifully with RF skin tightening alone, while others may benefit more from combining XERF with treatments like biostimulators, injectables, or resurfacing depending on what’s driving the aging changes. IS THERE DOWNTIME WITH XERF? One of the biggest reasons patients love XERF is that it’s designed to fit into real life. In most cases, there is little to no downtime . You may have some temporary warmth or mild redness after treatment, but many people return to normal activities the same day. In most cases you actually leaving looking better. XERF is a non-invasive treatment without the need for needles, numbing, or significant downtime , which is a big part of its appeal. That said, your exact recovery experience can vary depending on your skin, the treatment settings used, and the areas treated — which is another reason provider customization matters. • Rejuvenate from Within: Everything You Need to Know About Radiesse & Hyper-Dilute Radiesse

At The Lotus Aesthetics and Wellness, we believe in offering treatments that not only enhance your appearance—but also improve your skin’s health over time. That’s why we’re proud to introduce Hyper-Dilute Radiesse to our lineup of advanced aesthetic services. This innovative injectable treatment is changing the game when it comes to firming, tightening, and revitalizing aging skin. Whether you’re noticing crepey skin on your neck, loss of volume in your hands, or laxity in areas like the décolletage or upper arms, Radiesse offers a powerful yet natural-looking solution. Let’s take a closer look at what makes Radiesse and its hyper-diluted form such standout treatments—and why your skin will thank you. What Is Radiesse? Radiesse is an FDA-approved biostimulatory filler made from Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, suspended in a smooth gel carrier. What makes it unique is that it's not just about adding volume—it actually stimulates your body’s natural collagen and elastin production over time. Initially, Radiesse provides subtle lift and structure. But as the gel is gradually absorbed, the CaHA particles remain behind to promote new tissue growth—leading to firmer, thicker, and more youthful skin. What Is Hyper-Dilute Radiesse? Hyper-Dilute Radiesse is exactly what it sounds like: the same powerful CaHA filler, but mixed with a customized solution of saline and lidocaine. This dilution transforms Radiesse from a traditional filler into a bio-stimulatory skin rejuvenator , allowing us to treat larger surface areas and achieve smoother, more uniform results—without adding volume. Instead of lifting or contouring, Hyper-Dilute Radiesse works within the skin to: Improve crepiness and fine lines Increase firmness and elasticity Enhance skin tone and texture Smooth and rejuvenate delicate areas like the neck, chest, arms, thighs, and above the knees It’s ideal for clients who want to restore skin quality in areas where traditional fillers or lasers fall short. Before and 3 weeks after 3mL What Does the Clinical Data Say? The effectiveness of Radiesse isn’t just anecdotal—it's backed by clinical research. In a 2020 study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology , patients treated with hyper-diluted Radiesse showed statistically significant improvements in skin elasticity, tone, and texture. The treatment increased dermal thickness and collagen production while improving the appearance of moderate to severe crepey skin, particularly in the neck and décolletage. Another clinical review in Dermatologic Surgery concluded that Radiesse has a high patient satisfaction rate , with long-lasting results seen up to 12-18 months after a series of treatments. ✨ Ready to Rejuvenate from Within? Your skin is unique—and so is your treatment plan at The Lotus. We’ll start with a personalized consultation to determine if Hyper-Dilute Radiesse is right for you, and map out a strategy to help you look refreshed, lifted, and naturally radiant. 📞 Call us or book online to schedule your appointment and take advantage of this limited-time offer. 💰 Introductory Offer for June To celebrate the launch of Radiesse at The Lotus Aesthetics and Wellness, we’re offering an introductory special of $100 OFF  throughout the month of June. 📍 Regular price:  $750🌸 June special:  $650 Whether you're new to aesthetic injectables or looking for a skin-tightening solution that doesn’t involve surgery or downtime, Hyper-Dilute Radiesse  may be exactly what you’ve been searching for.

  • Why PDGF+ Is the New Gold Standard for Under-Eye Rejuvenation

In the ever-evolving world of Aesthetic Medicine, innovation is key to achieving optimal results. One of the latest breakthroughs making waves is Ariessence Pure PDGF+, a cutting-edge treatment harnessing the regenerative capabilities of Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF). This advanced therapy offers a promising alternative to traditional methods, providing patients with enhanced skin rejuvenation outcomes. Understanding PDGF: A Brief History Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) was first identified in the 1970s as a crucial component in wound healing and tissue regeneration. Initially recognized for its role in stimulating cell proliferation, PDGF has been extensively studied for its therapeutic applications in various medical fields, including orthopedics and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Lynch, a pioneering researcher in regenerative medicine, played a significant role in identifying therapeutic applications for PDGF. His work has benefited millions of patients, leading to the development of Ariessence Pure PDGF+, the purest and most concentrated PDGF product available in the aesthetics market. Ariessence Pure PDGF+ in Aesthetic Treatments Ariessence Pure PDGF+ is a pharmaceutical-grade, lab-engineered solution designed to promote skin and hair rejuvenation at the cellular level. It contains a pure, recombinant, sterile form of PDGF-BB, one of the most active and well-studied forms of this regenerative signal, combined with hyaluronic acid to support hydration and comfort. Applications in Aesthetic Procedures: Microneedling and Laser Treatments: Applied topically during or immediately after procedures like microneedling, radiofrequency, or fractional laser, Ariessence Pure PDGF+ enhances collagen stimulation and expedites healing, leading to improved skin texture and vibrancy. Under-Eye Rejuvenation: For patients experiencing under-eye hollowing, fine lines, or thinning skin, PDGF+ can be injected to restore volume and enhance the delicate skin by stimulating collagen production, resulting in a refreshed, natural appearance. Comparing PDGF+ with HA Fillers and PRP/PRF Understanding how Ariessence Pure PDGF+ differs from other common treatments can help determine the best approach for individual patient needs. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers: Function: Provide immediate volume and structure to the skin. Composition: Synthetic or naturally derived substances that mimic the body's hyaluronic acid. Longevity: Results typically last 6 to 18 months, depending on the product and treatment area. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF): Function: Utilize the patient's own blood components to stimulate collagen production and tissue regeneration. Procedure: Involves drawing blood, processing it to concentrate platelets, and re-injecting it into the treatment area. Considerations: Results can vary based on the patient's age, health, and lifestyle. Multiple sessions may be required for optimal outcomes. Ariessence Pure PDGF+: Function: Delivers a potent, consistent dose of PDGF to promote cellular regeneration and healing. Advantages: No blood draw required, reducing the risk of contamination and variability. Offers 1,000-300,000 times the potency of PRF, leading to more predictable and effective results. The Future of Skin Rejuvenation Ariessence Pure PDGF+ represents a significant advancement in aesthetic medicine, offering a powerful tool for skin rejuvenation without the drawbacks associated with traditional fillers or blood-derived treatments. • BBL - Beautiful Skin in a Flash

At The Lotus, we are always searching for cutting-edge treatments that deliver outstanding results. That’s why we are thrilled to introduce BBL (Broad-Band Light) by Sciton —a revolutionary laser therapy that goes beyond standard skincare treatments to address multiple skin concerns, rejuvenate your complexion, and leave you glowing with confidence. What is BBL? BBL, or Broad-Band Light, is a type of intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment. However, it is often regarded as the next generation of IPL due to its versatility and enhanced effectiveness. Developed by Sciton , a leader in laser technology, BBL delivers light energy deep into your skin to target signs of aging, pigmentation, and a variety of other skin concerns. The treatment is non-invasive, gentle, and requires little to no downtime, making it a popular choice for people looking for effective results without surgery. How Does BBL Work? The BBL device emits a broad spectrum of light wavelengths, allowing it to target different layers of the skin. The key to its effectiveness is the precision with which it heats specific areas of the skin without harming the surrounding tissue. Here’s how it works in simple steps: Light Penetration : The light emitted by the BBL device penetrates the skin's surface, targeting problem areas. Thermal Energy : The light energy is absorbed by chromophores (such as pigment or blood vessels) within the skin. This energy converts into heat. Cellular Regeneration : The heat stimulates your skin’s natural collagen production and regeneration of healthy skin cells. It can also break up unwanted pigmentation or shrink blood vessels, reducing discoloration. What Can BBL Treat? One of the most exciting aspects of BBL is its versatility. This treatment can address a wide range of skin concerns, making it suitable for individuals with different skin types and goals. Here are some of the common conditions that BBL can treat: Sun Damage & Age Spots : BBL can break down areas of excess pigmentation caused by UV exposure, age, or genetics. This includes sun spots, liver spots, and other types of hyperpigmentation. Rosacea & Redness : The treatment can reduce the appearance of redness or broken capillaries, making it an effective option for rosacea patients. Acne & Acne Scars : BBL is known for its ability to reduce active acne by instantly killing acne bacteria on and within the skin and improve the appearance of acne scars by stimulating skin healing. Fine Lines & Wrinkles : By promoting collagen production, BBL helps smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, giving the skin a more youthful texture. Uneven Skin Tone & Texture : The light energy rejuvenates skin tone and texture, creating a smoother, more even complexion. Permanent Hair Reduction : BBL is highly effective at destroying growing hair folicles on the body. Compared to our IPL laser, BBL is a lot more comfortable, takes less time, and is even more effective. We can also treat the entire body! Spider Veins : The treatment can minimize visible veins by shrinking them, reducing their appearance on the skin’s surface. Sagging Skin : Collagen stimulation from BBL can also lead to firmer skin, reducing the look of sagging in treated areas. (If sagging skin is your main concern, we recomend pairing the BBL with our RF Microneedling device.) Why Choose BBL by Sciton? Advanced Technology : Sciton’s BBL technology is the most powerful IPL (intense pulsed light) device on the market, capable of providing customizable treatments based on each patient’s skin type and concerns. Non-Invasive : BBL requires no needles or incisions, making it a non-invasive alternative to more aggressive procedures. Minimal Downtime : With BBL, you can expect little to no downtime. Most patients resume their normal activities immediately after treatment. Customizable for Most Skin Types : BBL can be customized based on your specific skin tone, type, and concerns. It is safe for a wide variety of skin tones and conditions. Forever Young BBL : Sciton offers a specific treatment protocol called "Forever Young BBL," which is clinically proven to delay the signs of aging and keep your skin looking youthful over time with regular maintenance treatments. What to Expect During and After Treatment During your BBL session, a cooling gel is applied to the skin to protect it and enhance your comfort. The BBL device is then gently glided over the treatment area, delivering pulses of light. Some patients report a slight warm or snapping sensation, but it is generally well tolerated. After treatment, your skin may appear slightly red or swollen for a few hours, similar to a mild sunburn. However, this subsides quickly. Depending on your skin’s condition, multiple sessions may be recommended for the best results. Over the next week, you may notice dark spots flaking off and improvements in your overall skin tone and texture. Is BBL Right for You? BBL is an excellent option for individuals seeking a non-invasive solution to sun damage, pigmentation, acne, unwanted hair, and signs of aging. Whether you’re looking to treat specific skin concerns or maintain a youthful appearance, BBL offers long-lasting results with minimal discomfort. At our medspa in Helotes , we are excited to help you achieve your skincare goals, whether that is using BBL or another one of our amazing lasers/services. • A Guide to Collagen Induction Therapy

Starting in our mid-twenties, we begin to lose about 1.5% of our collagen each year. Collagen is a vital protein that provides our skin with structure, elasticity, and firmness . As this natural decline occurs, skin can start to show signs of aging, such as fine lines and reduced elasticity. To combat this, advanced treatments using Collagen Induction Therapy are designed to stimulate the production of new collagen, rejuvenating your skin and slowing the aging process. From fine lines to acne scars, CIT offers a range of treatments tailored to rejuvenate and revitalize your skin. Here’s an in-depth look at what exactly Collagen Induction Therapy is and what treatments can help provide the outcome you're looking for. What is Collagen Induction Therapy? Collagen Induction Therapy is a range of minimally invasive procedures designed to boost collagen and elastin production in the skin. By creating controlled micro-injuries, CIT stimulates the body's natural repair mechanisms, leading to a firmer, smoother complexion. Different methods within CIT cater to specific skin concerns and goals, offering a personalized approach to skincare. The only downside we see in the Aesthetics industry with CIT, is the time it takes to see results. Results from these treatments often take weeks to see, and usually get better with time. If you're planning on getting one of the services below, please keep in mind that results may not be instant, but to trust the process and your Injector. Types of Collagen Induction Therapy PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin): PRF involves drawing a small amount of your blood and processing it to concentrate the platelets and growth factors. (We call this Liquid Gold ). The Liquid Gold is then injected into the under-eye area to thicken skin, reduce fine lines & wrinkles, build volume, and redcue the appearance of under-eye hallows. This treatment enhances the skin's natural healing process, leading to improved texture, tone, and elasticity. PRF can also be injected into the scalp to promote hair growth! PRF EZ Gel: Similar to PRF, PRF EZ Gel uses a more refined formulation to deliver growth factors and healing properties. The gel-like consistency provides more of a filler substance, delivering instant volume and maximizing the benefits of collagen production and skin rejuvenation. RF Microneedling (Radiofrequency Microneedling): This advanced technique combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy. As the microneedles penetrate the skin, RF energy is delivered to the deeper layers, enhancing collagen stimulation and tightening the skin. RF Microneedling is particularly effective for addressing deeper wrinkles, sagging skin, acne scars (pitting), and stretch marks. SkinPen Microneedling: SkinPen is a state-of-the-art microneedling device that creates controlled micro-injuries to stimulate collagen production. It is designed to treat a variety of skin concerns, including fine lines, acne scars (pigmentation), and uneven texture, with minimal downtime. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light): While not a microneedling treatment, IPL is often used in conjunction with CIT for comprehensive skin rejuvenation. IPL uses broad-spectrum light to target pigmentation, redness, and sun damage at a deeper level in the skin. Other Laser Treatments: Various laser technologies can be integrated with CIT for enhanced results. Fractional lasers, like our MOXI Laser for example, create micro-injuries in the skin similar to microneedling but with the added benefit of targeted laser energy. This combination can address deeper skin concerns and improve overall texture and tone. Chemical Peels: Chemical peels involve the application of a chemical solution to exfoliate the outer layers of the skin, revealing fresher, more youthful skin underneath. This treatment helps to improve skin texture, reduce hyperpigmentation, and enhance the results of CIT by promoting deeper skin renewal. Benefits of Collagen Induction Therapy Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: CIT stimulates collagen production, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles for a youthful appearance Improves Skin Texture and Tone: Treatments like RF Microneedling, SkinPen, MOXI, and chemical peels can effectively address acne scars, stretch marks, and uneven skin tone & texture Enhances Skin Elasticity: Techniques such as PRF and PRF EZ Gel help to restore skin elasticity and firmness Non-Surgical with Minimal Downtime: CIT offers significant skin improvements without the need for invasive surgery, allowing for quick recovery and return to daily activities Who is an Ideal Candidate? Collagen Induction Therapy is suitable for all skin types and ages, but especially those looking to address and/or prevent the signs of aging, acne scars, or uneven skin texture. Consultation with a skincare professional is essential to determine the most appropriate treatment based on your skin concerns and goals. Final Thoughts Collagen Induction Therapy represents a range of advanced treatments designed to rejuvenate and revitalize your skin by boosting collagen production. Whether you choose PRF, PRF EZ Gel, RF Microneedling, SkinPen Microneedling, IPL, laser treatments, facials, or chemical peels, each option offers unique benefits to enhance your complexion.
